The City of Henderson is the fastest growing town in
America! Located just 7 miles from the famed Las Vegas Strip and
less than a mile from beautiful Lake Mead it is known throughout the
country for its premiere master planned residential communities,
outstanding parks and recreational facilities, cultural arts,
shopping and great schools.
Incorporated in l953, Henderson was actually "born
in America's defense" ten years earlier during World War II with the
building of the Basic Magnesium Plant. The plant supplied the US War
Department with magnesium for munitions and airplane parts. Many of
the original townsite homes, built to house plant workers, still
exist as residences in the older part of the city. That heritage
remains an important part of Henderson's culture. Each year,
residents take part in city-sponsored street dances, barbecues,
parades and July 4th fireworks and picnics.
The city's official slogan "Henderson—a Place to
Call Home" reflects a community that enjoys small town values while
benefiting from big city efficiencies. An increasing number of major
shopping malls, movie theater complexes, restaurants and casino
resorts offer residents a variety of choices for leisure time.
"Shakespeare in the Park" celebrated its tenth year anniversary in
l996, a testament to the community's longstanding support for the
arts and cultural programs. The Henderson Civic Symphony, Theater in
the Valley, Concerts Under the Stars, and Twilight in the Park
Concerts, as well as a number of varied touring and local
productions, are all part of Henderson's Cultural Events programs.
The City also boasts the largest recreational facility – the
Multigenerational Facility at Liberty Pointe – in Nevada as well as
Nevada's only scenic Bird Preserve. |
